Weeknights with Alice
Low-stress, failsafe midweek dinners from the international superstar that Nigella Lawson calls a 'force of nature' - Queen of Veg, Alice Zaslavsky
'Alice spreads joy and confidence in the kitchen more than anyone I know.' – Maggie Beer
'Alice turns vegetables into the path of least resistance. Her recipes are bright and unfussy, brilliantly practical and always delicious – for tired nights when you've been staring at the open fridge for too long.' – Yotam Ottolenghi
Following the runaway success of In Praise of Veg and Salad for Days, Alice Zaslavsky returns with a curated collection of 80 quick, clever veg-forward dinners, each designed to make dinner feel like a breeze, not a squeeze.
With her trademark warmth, Alice shows you how to build satisfying meals from the vegetable crisper up, using a streamlined pantry and zero fuss. These are recipes you'll come back to until you have them on autopilot.
Organised by colour of vegetable, this flexi-format kitchen companion is built to be flipped through, scribbled in and cooked from night after night.
Inside you'll find:
- a pared-back pantry that keeps shopping lists short and flavour high;
- clear prep and cook times, plus smart 'double duty' notes for leftovers;
- hints, tips and substitutions to make each recipe work for you;
- a bonus 'from scratch' section for homemade pastes, sauces, flavour boosters and basics (with full permission to go for store-bought if you want to save even more time); and
- a 'when you feel like' index to help streamline dinner-time decision-making.
By starting with the veg, your cooking becomes quicker, more nutritious and cost-effective. Brimming with the joyful authority of a cook who knows what real weeknights look like, Weeknights with Alice will transform the way you cook at home.

About the Author
Alice Zaslavsky is an award-winning author, broadcaster and taste-maker. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Alice grew up with a cuisine that reaches for the veg first. It's no surprise, then, that this is at the heart of her food philosophy - Alice helps others across the world do the same through her books, radio and television work, and columns in global publications. Alice is the long-time Culinary Correspondent for ABC News Breakfast and ABC Radio nationally, and host of A Bite to Eat with Alice on ABC TV. In 2025, she was inducted into the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival Legends Hall of Fame as a Trailblazer for her work as an educator and communicator. Her vegetable bible In Praise of Veg has been translated into seven languages in 15 countries, winning such accolades as a Gastronomisch gold medal in Germany, an ABIA in Australia, and James Beard finalist in North America. She is also the author of ABIA-shortlisted bestseller Salad for Days, CBCA Notable kids' fun food fact book Alice's Food A to Z and cooking confidence un‑locker The Joy of Better Cooking. Her 'You've Got This' recipe column in The Guardian and 'Ask Alice' advice column in Good Food encourage cooks of all abilities to get into the kitchen and use what they've got - be it ingredient, skill or gadget. She's also the creator of the innovative digital food literacy platform Phenomenom, a comprehensive digital toolkit for schools that incorporates food into every subject in meaningful ways. You'll find Alice's recipes at alice.recipes and on the socials as @aliceinframes.
