About Book Hero

Book Hero is an independent online bookstore based in Auckland. We believe books are a secret super power and we’re on a mission to help more New Zealanders rediscover a love for books and reading! 

We're a bookstore run by technology people, so we've tried Kindles, iPads and everything in between. But we believe nothing comes close to a physical book. That new book smell, the feel of the paper between your fingers, the conversations great books spark when they're proudly displayed on a bookshelf. 

In the modern age of screen addiction and shortened attention spans, books are a timely reminder of the peace and joy that can be found simply by slowing down and engaging the power of our own imaginations. Books make you smarter, happier, more relaxed, more informed and a more interesting person to be around. In 2024 we think the world needs much more of all those things...

We're a locally owned bookstore with a difference. We're online and we only do books. We hold over 5,000 amazing books in-stock in our Auckland warehouse, and our books can be delivered overnight anywhere in New Zealand. This means you can enjoy more of the books you love but without slow or expensive shipping. If you live in Auckland and you're in a real hurry, you can even pick up your order for free from our warehouse in Hobsonville. We're proud of our website and our curated range of titles, but we're just getting started. We're putting tonnes of effort into creating new and interesting ways to browse and discover the very best books on the planet...

We're an online store with a warehouse that's optimised for storing lots of books and fast delivery - but we also offer free Pick Ups for customers in Auckland.

We're not a chain store or big box retailer. We're a small group of passionate and creative friends who've come together to create a new way for Kiwis to buy and enjoy books in an online environment. We stand behind the books we sell and the service we provide. If you're not happy with your book or the service you've received - let us know, and one of us will do our very best to make it right for you.

Tim and Dylan met during their time working together at Mighty Ape and share a joint passion for books and eCommerce. They were both known around the office as giant book nerds, and creating a bookstore together was an opportunity neither could resist and almost felt a bit inevitable! Dylan and Jeremy started as neighbours and have now been friends for over a decade. When it came time for Book Hero to need its first warehouse manager, both Jeremy and Dylan jumped at the opportunity to work together. 

Like any small business, Book Hero wouldn't exist without help from supportive friends and family who've all chipped in with expertise ranging from graphic design, branding, book keeping, warehouse design, receiving and shelving books or simply being at the receiving end of a txt, phone call or outdoor walk to help solve today's problem. You all know who you are - and we thank you!

Book Hero went from idea to reality in less than six months and we're proud of what we've achieved - but we're just getting started. We think our website is a good first effort, and we already have a lot of great books on our shelves - but we know that we're still a long way from where we need to be and what our customers expect. We now face the challenge of growing Book Hero to a larger scale so we can create efficiencies that allow us to hold a broader and deeper range of books in-stock and help make long-tail books more affordable and accessible.

We know book-loving Kiwis have been crying out for an online bookstore 100% dedicated to books with a huge range and great pricing. We've made a start but we know there's a long way to go.
