Check out all the new releases for this week!
This week we had some exciting new releases arrive with some huge names in fiction releasing new books, a highly anticipated new health guide, and possibly the biggest children's book of the year. Let's take a look.
Fiction New Releases!
First off we are SO excited for everyone to read Rebecca F. Kuang's new novel, Taipei Story.
An incredible new novel from an extremely clever writer, this time about a young student in Taipei for the summer trying to reconnect with her family and her culture through language learning. As always it's both extremely readable and makes you think a lot about the ways that language informs who we are and how we connect with each other.

Some other amazing releases include a couple mysteries for the suspense readers include Lucy Foley's first Miss Marple novel, bringing new life to the beloved Agatha Christie character in Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel. Alice Feeney, one of Hannah's favourites in the genre, is also back with a new novel, Daisy Darker, full of psychological suspense and a setting that sounds incredibly atmospheric (think a crumbling Cornish house on a private island!).
Historical fiction readers will be stoked this week with two incredible new novels here - The Witches of Cambridge by Alice Hoffman (yes, the author of Practical Magic!!), and The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon which Edd read and loved, all about the life of an infamous Irish folk heroine and sea captain.
Two that I (Lizzy) was lucky enough to read just before release included Jodi Picoult's new novel, Hollow Bones, which I absolutely LOVED. It's Picoult's storytelling at its best and if you love her earlier novels then you should absolutely check it out (take care with content though and potentially check the warnings if you are a māmā). On a slightly different genre note I also read Laurie Gilmore's rewritten paranormal romance, Big Bad Wolf - a retelling of Red Riding Hood which delivered exactly what I wanted.
There are a couple of sequels out for those that loved the dark, gothic romance, Anathema by Keri Lake, or the Lit RPG adventure, He Who Fights with Monsters so make sure to check the new ones out if you enjoyed either of those!
Non-Fiction New Releases!
We had so many pre-orders for Protocols by Dr Andrew Huberman, a hefty new manual for how to take the best care of yourself and your health that people are reaching for due to the evidence based approach Huberman takes, and his renowned acclaim as a Stanford professor.
I think another book that should be getting as much attention is Hormone Health is Mental Health by Dr Fatima Khan, another expert but this time about women specifically who are dealing with changing hormones and the often incredibly misunderstood understanding of the impact this has on health and wellbeing for women in their 30s and above. The other non-fiction new release that I will definitely be picking up is Caitlin Moran's latest, How to be Hopeful. It sounds incredible.
There's also a few amazing new cookbooks out this week for the foodies. There's the stunning hardback, Saint Peter by Josh Niland which is so much more than just a cookbook - packed with essays and verses reflecting on his philosophy of treating every single fish with care in their preparation and consumption. It's the most beautiful cookbook - looking more like a work of art!
Then we also have two other cookbooks, this time perfect for the busy person just trying to somehow eat well despite having no time. Dinner Sorted by Tyler Butt and 20 Minute Meals by Jamie Oliver are both excellent additions, focusing on fast, easy meals packed with nutrition and flavour.
Children's New Releases!
Obviously the most important new release this week is a new Gruffalo book after more than 20 years!! I think I can recite the other two off by heart, so to have Gruffalo Granny arrive, by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by the Axel Scheffler, feels like Christmas.
You are obviously all very excited too because our first shipment already sold out, but there's more on the way so if you missed out don't fret. We waited 20 years, a couple weeks more won't hurt!
For the tamariki there's also a new Little People, Big Dreams Treasury which we love and would make such a beautiful gift, as well as a new Claris in Return to the Ritz, in case you have an obsessed four year old like I do!
I have such core memories of fighting over who got to read books like the Ripley's Believe it or not, and the yearly Guinness Book of Records, and the new editions of both of these have just dropped too for 2027.
