Alastair is the mastermind behind the software you don’t see - the operational engine that keeps Book Hero running smoothly and gets books picked, packed, and shipped fast. Always working and a committed runner, audiobooks are his format of choice, though he still makes it home in time for bedtime stories with his daughter, Lexi. A lifelong learner, Alastair is a trained paramedic, pilot and software engineer. Amelia is our Category Assistant Hero, turbo charging our Books and Toys categories and making sure everything looks awesome on the website. With a sharp eye for detail and a natural instinct for merchandising, she keeps our ranges looking their best. An absolute Hero on a spreadsheet, a talent inherited from Alastair, Amelia is the final Burns sibling to join the team, meaning we have officially collected the full set. When she is not fine tuning categories or perfecting product pages, you will likely find her deep in a puzzle or mid board game, quietly plotting her next victory against her siblings.

Cam designs and improves the systems that help Book Hero run smoothly at scale, supporting the warehouse team with clear processes, training and thoughtful planning. With a background in organisational psychology, he’s passionate about building a workplace where the team feel supported, recognised and set up to succeed. A big fantasy and sci-fi reader, Cam loves epic series like The Stormlight Archive and when he’s not reading you’ll find him bouldering, cooking, camping or spending time with his family - some of whom now work alongside him at Book Hero. Born in the chambers of hell and now unleashed on the Book Hero fulfilment benches, Dom is the driving force behind getting your order out the door on time and in pristine condition. He currently holds the Book Hero record with an unbeaten 121 orders per hour. When he’s not dominating the fulfilment benches, you’ll usually find him out fishing - or quietly surprising everyone with his patience and fine motor skills through his intricate Rolife creations. Dylan assembled the Book Hero team and is on a mission to build a company where great people work together to create an experience for customers they’re proud of. He mostly reads to learn, squeezing in pages in short bursts or on weekends and holidays – usually before or after a very long day at Book Hero. If you’ve had a great customer experience, chances are Dylan had a hand in it, whether he’s answering customer emails at the front desk or quietly fighting and advocating for customers behind the scenes.

Eve genuinely loves helping people and brightening the day of both customers and the team. A mystery and thriller fan (always looking for a reason to recommend Daisy Jones & The Six), she’s just as happy picking and packing orders behind the scenes as she is helping readers in store. When she’s not surrounded by books, you’ll find her studying architecture, reading on the train, walking with friends and family or heading home to her kune kune pigs, Rolls and Royce. Hannah brings a huge range of skills to Book Hero and loves spending her Saturdays in the bookstore helping customers find their next great read. She’s just as confident behind the scenes, knowing the warehouse inside out and even operating the high stock picker - a skill only a few heroes can claim. A devoted reader of classic literature and modern fiction, fluent in Chinese, and a youth group leader who enjoys swimming in her spare time, Hannah brings thoughtfulness and a genuine love of helping the team wherever she’s needed. Lizzy makes sure the Book Hero bookstore is an integral part of our local Hobsonville community, welcoming readers of all ages with a genuine kindness and love of books. The Fantastic Mr Fox ignited her passion for books as a child, and now she’s read thousands of books and loves matching the right book to the right reader - both in our bookstore and online. When she’s not recommending her next favourite read, she’s enjoying life’s small joys and adding to a home library so large her husband Edd is constructing a massive bookshelf to try and keep up. Marnie makes sure the numbers add up, suppliers are paid on time and the accountants are kept at a safe distance from Dylan. A quiet achiever who loves reading and helping out in the bookstore, she brings the same care and attention to detail to customers as she does to the books. When she’s not at Book Hero, you’ll usually find her enjoying the outdoors - swimming, cycling, or squeezing in an early gym session - and keeping a close eye on Formula One (spoilers strictly not allowed). When she’s not reading, you’ll usually find her at CrossFit, enjoying a coffee or ice cream by the beach, or staying up late playing board games with friends or tuning into Formula One. When she’s not keeping things running smoothly at Book Hero, she enjoys puzzling and building LEGO – skills that perfectly match her attention to detail and calm precision in the warehouse. Tim brings the fun to Book Hero as our Toys Hero, making sure we stock amazing book-adjacent toys that help kids learn, spark imagination and encourage screen free play. A big kid and true collector at heart, Tim has built an incredible collection of pinball machines, retro arcade games and carefully curated pop culture memorabilia. Tim is responsible for the Book Hero website and makes sure everything you see is beautiful and works perfectly. An incredible all-rounder, he knows the ins and outs of eCommerce - from software development to sales and marketing - and has a home library of over 700 books to prove his love of reading and learning. Roopa is the friendly face behind Book Hero’s growing support for school librarians, making sure great books get into the hands of tamariki and readers everywhere. Roopa also supports our Sales Heroes behind the scenes as a specialist replenishment buyer, helping keep shelves stocked and ensuring we meet our overnight delivery promise to customers.
