The French Chef Cookbook
A beautiful new edition of the beloved cookbook, The French Chef Cookbook by Julia Child, captures the joyful spirit of her debut television series. Known for transforming American home cooking, this comprehensive collection features more than 300 classic French recipes that range from Aioli to Velouté, Bouillabaisse to Ratatouille.
By 1963, Julia Child had already achieved widespread recognition as the bestselling author of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, but it was her television series, The French Chef, that made her a household name. Throughout ten inspiring seasons, millions of Americans tuned in to not only learn how to cook, but to embrace food’s cultural and social experience. This series redefined American culinary habits and earned Julia a Peabody Award in 1965 and an Emmy Award in 1966.
From this immense success arose The French Chef Cookbook, Julia’s first solo opus. Written with the same wit, wisdom, and joie de vivre for which she is fondly remembered, the cookbook is structured around episodes of the show - such as “Dinner in a Pot,” “Caramel Desserts,” and “Beef Gets Stewed Two Ways.” This format makes it a complete French culinary education, presenting more than 300 delectable recipes including timeless classics like Cassoulet, Vichyssoise, Coq au Vin, Croissants, and Chocolate Mousse.
The French Chef Cookbook, as the definitive companion to Julia's groundbreaking television series, is now available in a beautifully crafted new edition. This edition celebrates sixty years since Julia first graced the airwaves, bringing her infectious enthusiasm for French cooking to kitchens across America. Whether you are a seasoned chef or a beginner, this cookbook is a delicious journey into the heart of French cuisine, powered by Julia Child’s delightful, indomitable spirit.
