Plants on Fire
Make your home cooking easier, smarter and a lot more fun with this cookbook from Masterchef Australia's Simon Toohey.
Generations of us have grown up on meat as the centrepiece of every meal. The vegetables? Often an afterthought.
Simon Toohey is not here to change centuries of food traditions (or your meat-eating habits), but he can help make your veggies taste better. Plants on Fire is the culmination of his ten-year journey learning how to cook simply and elementally with vegetables to extract maximum flavour. These 100+ everyday recipes are designed to ignite your taste buds and your passion for cooking over flame.
Using fire, you can unlock what's already in the plant - the sweetness, the texture, the bite, the surprise. Throw a cabbage straight into the coals, brush off the ash, slice it open, and you've got one of the most flavourful things you'll ever eat. Take a pumpkin, roast it whole in its own skin, and it becomes something soft, smoky and deeply satisfying.
With recipes ranging from snacks to feast-worthy plates, this book proves that plants aren't only the side act - they're the main event.
'Hot dang! Get ready to have your inspiration fired up for grilling gourds, torching turnips and burning brassicas' ALICE ZASLAVSKY
'As the Fruit Nerd, I'm always searching for people who make produce shine, and Simon does exactly that. Plants on Fire is a celebration of his creativity and energy, unlocking bold flavours and proving that seasonal produce can be the star of any dish! TRANH TRUONG
