The World Atlas of Wine is the single most important reference book on the shelf of any wine student." - Eric Asimov, New York Times "Simply superb work... buy it if you like wine at all." - Victoria Moore, Telegraph "The most useful single volume on wine ever published... If I owned only one wine book, it would be this one." - Andrew Jefford, Decanter *

Few wine books can be called classic, but the first edition of The World Atlas of Wine made publishing history when it appeared in 1971, and subsequent editions have ensured it remains the most authoritative, must-have wine reference work available. This ninth edition will bring readers, both old and new, up to date with the fascinating and rewarding world of wine.

To reflect all the changes in the global wine scene since the last edition in 2019, 18 brand-new maps have been added to the wealth of superb cartography in the book. The incisive text has been given a complete overhaul to address the topics of most vital interest to today's wine-growers and drinkers, including the impact of climate change resulting in new wine-growing in the far north of Europe and the sustainability initiatives being explored globally.

With beautiful photography throughout, Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson, the world's most respected wine-writing duo, working with esteemed maps editor Julia Harding, have once again joined forces to create a classic that no wine lover can afford to be without.

About the Author

Hugh Johnson (Author)

Hugh Johnson has led the world of wine writing in many new directions over the six decades since his first book, Wine, was published in 1966. The World Atlas of Wine, his Wine Companion (now in its sixth edition), the annual Pocket Wine Book (since 1977), The Story of Wine, following a 13-part TV series, and his memoirs, A Life Uncorked, have all been bestsellers. In 2004, Hugh was made a Chevalier of the Ordre National du Merite by President Chirac, and in 2007, he was awarded an OBE for services to winemaking and horticulture, two of his great passions.

Jancis Robinson (Author)

Jancis Robinson is described by Decanter magazine as "the most respected wine critic and journalist in the world". She is editor in chief of the award-winning JancisRobinson.com and writes weekly for the Financial Times. In addition to co-authoring The World Atlas of Wine since its 5th edition, she is founding editor of The Oxford Companion to Wine, and co-author of Wine Grapes. Jancis was the first person outside the wine trade to qualify as a Master of Wine, in 1984. She was awarded an OBE in 2003, France's Officier du Merite Agricole and the German VDP's highest honour in 2016, and has six James Beard Awards. She also has two Lifetime Achievement Awards - from the IWSC (2018) and the Institute of Masters of Wine (2024).

Julia Harding (Author)

Julia Harding is a distinguished wine writer, editor, and Master of Wine, renowned for her expertise and attention to detail. For over 20 years, she has been Jancis Robinson's senior editor at JancisRobinson.com. Julia co-authored Wine Grapes (2012), was lead editor for the 5th edition of The Oxford Companion to Wine, and has edited the maps for The World Atlas of Wine since the 7th edition. She has received numerous accolades for her writing, including Wines of Portugal Personality of 2022 and the 67 Pall Mall Global Wine Communicator award for long-form writing 2025.
