This week there's new dark romance from one of our favourites, the brand new US edition of Threshing Day in stock, the book every Heated Rivalry fan needs, and SO much more.
Here I'm covering off my highlights for Fiction, Non-Fiction, and one very special Children's new release! Take a look at all the New Releases right here.
Fiction New Releases!
Firstly, yes - it's finally here. We now have stock for both the beautiful editions of Threshing Day including the US Wing and Claw version which went on a wee journey to get here. The things you need to know is that the stories will have you sobbing, and regardless of which edition you end up with you will have the most incredible, full colour dragon illustrations to admire. Seriously spectacular. Speaking of special editions, the new Quicksilver paperback has arrived with a beautiful Kingfisher cover and sprayed edges and I think I may need.
Leigh Rivers is also back with the brand new Web of Silence duet and both of them have released at the same time which is a rare gift! My husband is happy too because the third He Who Fights With Monsters has arrived too and he's been loving this Lit-RPG series (perfect for Dungeon Crawler Carl fans!). It's cool to see a new fantasy novel by an NZ author arriving, Deathless King by R.A. Castellan looks like a stressfully great time where a blood war is looming and vampire clans are rising again.
My husband is currently reading Lessons in Chemistry which is one of my faves, and Bonnie Garmus' new novel, Peck & Peck, arrived this week which is super exciting. Shirl has already read her copy and says about it "This was a heart-warming, humorous read. If you love poetry, I think you’ll enjoy it even more, but even if it’s not usually your thing, you might come away with a new appreciation for it. I recommend Peck & Peck if you enjoyed My Friends by Fredrik Backman or The Correspondent by Virginia Evans." Well I LOVE poetry so I am super excited to read Peck & Peck.
Hernan Diaz is a celebrated author who won the Pulitzer Prize for his earlier novel Trust which I shamefully don't know much about, but his new futuristic thriller, Ply, also sounds absolutely incredible. Set centuries ahead in a futuristic America, this is about music and science and the role of technology as societies change. It sounds like me ideal mix of speculative literary fiction and I'm keen to give it a go soon! I've already picked up my copy of Inter Alia by Suzie Miller which sounds like a gripping story about a Crown Court Judge who experiences a terrible crisis that throws her various roles into chaos.
The other fiction release this week that is jumping straight to the top of my wishlist is As We Fall Through Time by Claire North, a new time travel love story (I think?) that looks perfect for me especially with quotes from Max Gladstone and Adrian Tchaikovsky endorsing it. This feels a little like This is How You Lose the Time War which is one of my favourites and I'm keen to go in not knowing too much more about the plot!
One of the books I recommend constantly is The Kamogawa Food Detectives so I am delighted to see another book from this author arrive about the way our memories are so often tied to meals. If you love exquisite and delectable food writing, definitely pick A Serving of Hope up by Hisashi Kashiwai.
Non-Fiction New Releases!
Firstly in non-fiction I am already handing over my hard earned cash to Vanya Insull with her newest cookbook, Always Delicious, already flying out the door. She visited us and shared her mars bar slice (included in this cookbook and INCREDIBLY delicious) but I was actually sold by flicking through and seeing so many options that I felt would make an ideal easy dinner, like the cheesy courgette rice bake which I am no joke planning to cook up tonight!
I am also incredibly excited for all the happy Heated Rivalry fans who have already been picking up their copies of I'll Believe Anything by Jacob Tierney, the creator of Heated Rivalry who has gifted us with a collected of annotated scripts and behind the scenes content. To the cottage we all go! Less romance inclined folks might be more interested in How to Hero by Ross Edgley (we welcome all readers!). This is the new book from a hugely popular author and adventurer detailing the science and psychology of heroism, and bringing together memoir, history, and self help science into one rather incredible book.
In the Room by Andrew Campbell arrived today as well, and it's his first hand account of the time he spent as Jacinda Ardern's press secretary, a fascinating insight into an extraordinary time in politics with one of our most iconic Prime Ministers. I know I'm probably the last person to not have watched a single Formula 1 race, but because I know many of you lovely readers do I'll also let you know that the new Official History by Maurice Hamilton has also arrived in stock and its the definitive guide, revised and updated and full of illustrations from what I hear is a pretty incredible sport.
One children's book highlight this week!
All the Ways I See by Eliza Hull and Nas Campanella
This book is INCREDIBLE. A joyful story about a trip to the beach from the perfective of a bling child as she experiences all the other senses like the smell of the hot chips and the splash of the ocean. The thing that makes this book so special is its accessible design, a groundbreaking new approach that I hope means we'll get much more like this. Designed specifically for blind, low vision and deaf or hard of hearing audiences in mind, this uses innovative features and design choices (like textured features) to make this readable by everyone.
