Snakes in Suits, Revised Edition
Dr. Robert Hare has devoted more than three decades of his professional career to the investigation of the psychopath and how psychopathic behaviour influences and corrupts society. The psychopath is destructive, sleazy, manipulative, and often the cause of crime and abuse on the street, in the home, and in the workplace. There is no doubt that everyone has come in contact and possibly been deceived by a psychotic personality. In fact, most disturbingly, itβs the nature of a psychopath to initially come across as very appealing and likable. How do you defend yourself against such a person in the workplace?
In Snakes in Suits, industrial and corporate psychologist Dr. Paul Babiak teams up with Dr. Hare to focus on the psychopathβs role in modern corporations. Documenting the psychopathβs patterns of skilled manipulation, Snakes in Suits informs the reader how to spot him before he destroys.
The psychopath is selfish, greedy, and deceptive, looking out only for himself and his own warped agenda. He can severely damage the structure of a company while harming the morale and trust that should exist in an efficient work environment. Babiak and Hare believe that the most effective way to avoid these individuals is to know how they operate so that you can recognise their malevolent ways. Snakes in Suits offers informative yet easy-to-understand explanations of the disorderβand the primary behaviours to watch for.
Signs of a psychopath at work include:
- He gives the perfect interview and quickly becomes everybodyβs favourite employee.
- He can be charming and exudes confidence and determinationβbut he may seem too good to be true.
- He works his way into a high-powered position or gets assigned important projects because he has associated only with the people who can advance his career.
- He soon becomes controlling and abusive toward other employees, starts to break small rules, manipulate colleagues, and gets caught blaming others for his own faults.
- It is later revealed that he has been destroying the management while pushing his way to the top.
Snakes in Suits reveals the psychopathβs secrets, introduces the ways in which they manipulate and deceive, and helps readers see through their games. The rapid pace of todayβs corporate environment provides the perfect breeding ground for these employees, and Snakes in Suits will give readers the necessary tools to protect themselves and their companiesβbefore itβs too late.
