New Hero Alert - Welcome Amelia!

New Hero Alert! Meet Amelia, our very first Category Assistant Hero.

Amelia, the fourth and final Burns sibling, has joined Alastair, Cam, Siobhan and the rest of the Team at an exciting time in Book Hero’s evolution. Boardgames, Puzzles and Toys are taking off and we need another pair of capable hands to keep up with the number of amazing new products hitting our shelves.

What will Amelia be doing?

As Book Hero’s first ever Category Assistant, Amelia will be adding all the exciting new toys, puzzles and board games arriving at Book Hero onto the website, making sure they are easy to find, beautifully presented and looking hot 🔥

We reckon she has one of the best roles in the building - she is first to see what is landing, first to explore what is new, and the one who gets to bring it all to life on the site for everyone else to discover.

Amelia comes with considerable experience in eCommerce, and as a genuine puzzles and boardgames fan herself, she is perfectly placed for the second part of her role…

Puzzles, Boardgames… and a Very Serious Puzzle Wall

Before Amelia’s first day we had already heard all about her amazing puzzle wall and her very serious Ticket to Ride sessions with her siblings, so it felt only natural that, because one job is never really enough at Book Hero, she would also take the lead on our Puzzles and Boardgames category 😅

Amelia is especially excited to explore new puzzles and boardgames to bring into the Book Hero range, and we cannot wait to see this category grow under her watch. She will be mentored by our Sales Heroes as she steps into the role, and we already know she is more than capable and will absolutely rise to the challenge - the category is in very safe hands!

Why Book Hero?

Amelia loves books, and she says it was the vibe (and some enthusiastic encouragement from her siblings) at Book Hero that drew her in from the start.

“It’s such a relaxing place to work. Everyone here is so lovely and happy.”

She was especially drawn to Book Hero’s strong customer focus and creating a service to be proud of.

After just a few days, she is already fully immersed and loving:

Alastair is a collector of degrees and extracurricular activities. Pilot, trained ambulance officer, med school student, ultramarathan runner and awesome Dad. He does it all so the rest of the family can lead a quiet life - stay home, read, bake and play games.

Siobhan has an incredible knack for word puzzles and general knowledge. She is our unofficial answer key during games.

Cam is an amazing baker who regularly creates delicious treats for the family - which is wonderful for them, but we're still waiting for our first delivery here at HQ...

Coffee, in particular, plays a critical role in her productivity, which is just as well considering we have two coffee machines and a weekly coffee bean subscription, thanks entirely to her brother Alastair.

What Does Amelia Love to Read?

Amelia’s favourite genres include high fantasy and romantasy, and she has recently been enjoying cosy fiction as well. She also dips into sci-fi, self help and the occasional biography.

If she had to recommend one book right now, it would be Metal Slinger.

She has already recommended it to many friends, describing it as the perfect balance of adventure and romance, with an ending so good she wishes she could forget it just to experience it again. She is counting down to the next book in the series.

When it comes to authors she returns to again and again, Brandon Sanderson is firmly at the top of the list. She especially loves the Mistborn and Skyward series and says his books reward every re-read with new details.

Boardgame Recommendation?

“It’s such a fun, simple game and you never really know who is going to win until the very end.” It’s been the cause of many family dramas…

She also believes puzzles and boardgames are a perfect fit for Book Hero. They encourage people to step away from screens, spend time together and embrace those playful, cosy vibes that feel right at home here. We’re certain Amelia will be leading more than a few boardgame nights here at HQ.

A Few Fun Facts

Something that might surprise you about Amelia?

She spends what she describes as an “unhealthy” amount of time and money in her garden trying to grow watermelon every summer.

Outside of work you will usually find her reading, playing World of Warcraft while watching a favourite show with her sister Siobhan, or tending to her garden.

The first thing she does each morning at her desk is log in, check what new products she will be loading that day and set a personal target - the competitive spirit runs strong in the Burns family. And yes, a coffee is essential to getting into the work zone.

Working With Family

Amelia gets to work alongside her three siblings here at Book Hero.

The best part?

“If I time it right, someone might make me a coffee.”

The worst part?

“Book Hero becomes the main topic of conversation at family dinners. And I may find myself roped into being the one making the coffee. Alastair has already made me responsible for the weekly New World and Allpress order.”

Looking Ahead

This year, Amelia is most excited about helping grow our Toys and Puzzles and Boardgames categories. She sees a huge opportunity and is looking forward to sharing her passion with customers.

She is expecting to learn a lot from our Sales Heroes and is excited about the challenge ahead.
