Marnie works across customer service and bookkeeping, which means she sits right in the middle of the Book Hero operation. From getting books into our systems and onto the shelves, to making sure suppliers are paid on time, she helps keep both sides of the business running in sync.
Her superpower is all about the details. Marnie loves making sure numbers are spot on and information is correct, so customers can get clear, accurate answers about their orders and the accountant can sleep easy knowing everything balances exactly the way it should.. She is the kind of person who will happily trace a problem all the way back to its source, fix it properly, and enjoy the quiet satisfaction of knowing it will not pop up again next time.
A day at Marnie’s desk starts the same way every morning. Tabs opened in exactly the same order, creating a calm, efficient rhythm for answering emails and reconciling transactions. Within reach you will always find a notebook, a very inky pen, and a proper calculator with buttons. Simple tools, expertly used.
One thing customers might be surprised to learn is that Marnie is only 21 and is a rising star who has worked her way through several roles at Book Hero. She started in the warehouse, moved into online and in person customer service, and now balances the books as well as the inbox. That journey gives her a rare, full picture of how everything fits together. If you have a question about the business that Marnie does not know the answer to, we would be surprised – and completely confident she'd find the answer anyway.
Outside of work, Marnie loves anything that gets her moving. Hiking, swimming, walking and talking with friends all feature heavily, and when the workday ends she switches off by finding her partner and sharing her daily download of Book Hero chaos - oh the stories he could tell. Music is always playing while she works, usually classical or familiar favourite artists, and coffee fuels the whole operation. Any kind will do, from instant through to the incredible espressos Alastair makes.
When it comes to reading, Marnie has a foot in both worlds. Right now she is juggling Are You Mad At Me? (spoiler: Marnie thinks everyone is mad at her all of the time) alongside the The Count of Monte Cristo. Her must read recommendations are anything from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld universe or The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Looking ahead, Marnie is especially excited about Book Hero expanding into book adjacent products. Growing up with books, card games and a house full of LEGO - it feels like the natural next chapter.
