The 5 Levels of High Performance Teams: A Balanced Framework in High-Velocity Environments redefines what it means to lead and sustain elite teams, providing a groundbreaking framework for building, managing, and optimising high-performance teams across industries, from business and sports to military and crisis response.

What truly defines a high performance team? For years, leadership experts have used the term loosely, failing to distinguish between teams that perform at a high level and those that must perform at an elite level under intense pressure.

The 5 Levels of High Performance Teams challenges the current literature and outdated definitions of high-performance teams by revealing a new classification system that distinguishes high performing teams (HPiTs) from high performance teams (HPaTs). Through extensive research and real-world experience, Dr. Michael W. Woody surveys the entire workforce, demonstrating that not all teams are equalโ€”and that recognising these differences is the key to unlocking elite team performance without toxicity or burnout.

As part of his research on high performance teams (HPaTs), Dr. Woody developed the Balanced Duality (B-D) Model, a groundbreaking framework that explains how leaders can balance team behaviour and dynamics to sustain both high performance and individual well-being. Whether in corporate boardrooms, emergency response units, military operations, elite sports teams, or high-stakes project management, the ability to consistently deliver excellence depends on a teamโ€™s structure, mission, and the environment in which they operate. This book provides actionable strategies for leaders at all levels to cultivate sustainable high performance while protecting the well-being of their teams.

Backed by decades of leadership experience and cutting-edge research, this book redefines what it means to be a high performance team, providing a groundbreaking blueprint for leaders, executives, coaches, and professionals who want to build teams that thrive under pressure and consistently deliver results.

Includes expert insights and real-world examples of high performance teams in action!

About the Author

Dr. Michael Woody, DBA, MBA, spent twenty-one years as an Army Ranger, serving in Operation Just Cause and Operation Iraqi Freedom. An inductee into the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and a competitor in the Best Ranger Competition, he transitioned from soldier to scholar, earning a BA in political science from Temple University, an MBA from Villanova University, and a DBA from Templeโ€™s Fox School of Business. He also holds leadership certificates from Oxford and the University of Chicago.

As the founder of Three Six Zero Leadership, Dr. Woody specializes in training executives and teams to excel in high-pressure environments. He pioneered the B-D Model of high-performance teams, a research-backed framework emphasizing resilience, adaptability, and balanced well-being. Alongside teaching roles at Temple Universityโ€™s ROTC program and Susquehanna University, he has been a semi pro triathlete and published poet, reflecting his belief in holistic personal development.

His arts collective, Espresso and Expressions, showcases his commitment to community and creativity. A devoted father of four, Dr. Woody merges military grit, academic insight, and artistic passion to guide leaders toward sustainable excellence. His journey stands as proof that exceptional teams arenโ€™t bornโ€”theyโ€™re built through grit, vision, care, and unwavering dedication.
