In the twentieth century, wealth and power were dictated by access to oil. In this century, the kingmakers and power players are changing. No longer solely defined by black gold, it's the metals and rare earth elements critical to modern technology that hold the key to unimaginable fortunes. From the devices we hold in our hands to the electric vehicles revolutionising transportation and the solar panels energising homes, these finite resources are the new pillars of power.

Volt Rush by Henry Sanderson delves into this electrifying shift in global dynamics, shedding light on the crucial role of these commodities in our modern world. Sanderson expertly transports readers across the globe on a riveting journey, meeting the prominent figures, corporations, and nations vying for control over these vital materials.

From the intense, labourious efforts in the cobalt mines of the Congo to the vast, arid expanses of Chile’s lithium-rich Atacama Desert, Sanderson paints a vivid picture of the ground-level struggles and high-stakes gambles. These remote outposts are intrinsically connected to the sprawling mega-factories in China, where cutting-edge battery technologies are being rapidly developed. Through encounters with shadowy commodity traders and reclusive billionaires, as well as with pioneering scientists working tirelessly on the next technological breakthrough, Sanderson presents a comprehensive narrative teeming with intrigue and ambition.

Volt Rush is not merely a chronicle of resource acquisition; it is an exploration of the geopolitical and economic shifts reshaping our world. It is the full story of the hidden quest to electrify our lives and ultimately seize the keys to the twenty-first century. Engaging, insightful, and meticulously researched, this book reveals the high-stakes race to secure the metals and minerals that promise to determine the future of energy, technology, and power.
