This is a story of reinvention.

Jim Whitehurst, celebrated president and CEO of one of the world's most revolutionary software companies, narrates his first-hand journey from being a traditional manager at Delta Air Lines and Boston Consulting Group to becoming CEO of one of the most open organisational environments he had ever encountered. This challenging transition and the lessons Whitehurst learned during this period have paved the way for a new style of management. According to Whitehurst, this is the only way companies will successfully function in the future. As Whitehurst emphasizes: "Adapt or die."

Beyond embracing the technology that has disrupted entire industries, companies must now adapt their management and organisational design to better fit the Information Age. Through a mix of vibrant stories, candid lessons, and tested processes, Whitehurst demonstrates how Red Hat has dismantled the traditional operating model by emerging from a purely bottom-up culture and learning how to execute it at scale. He explains what other companies are doing, and need to do, to bring this open style into all facets of their organisations.
