The One-Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka has been transforming the lives of its readers since its initial publication in 1978. This book serves as a call to arms, a manifesto, and a radical rethinking of the global systems upon which we rely for sustenance.
It also stands as the memoir of a man whose spiritual beliefs inform every aspect of his innovative farming philosophy. Fukuoka, equally a farmer and a philosopher, is acknowledged as one of the pioneering thinkers in the permaculture movement.
He perfected what he called the "do-nothing" technique, a method of farming that cooperates with nature rather than attempting to reshape it through increasingly complex—and often harmful—methods.
His farm evolved into a gathering place where people from around the world came to learn how to adapt his techniques to their own local cultures.

About the Author
Masanobu Fukuoka (1914-2008) was born in a small farming village on the island of Shikoku in southern Japan. He developed what many consider to be a revolutionary method of sustainable agriculture called no-till cultivation. He received the Deshikottan and the Ramon Magsaysay awards in 1988, and the Earth Council Award in 1997.
