The Ogre’s Daughter by Catherine Bardon tells the compelling life story of Flor de Oro, born in 1915 in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic. Her father, who rose from a small-time gangster to a dictator, ruled the country with an iron fist for three decades until his assassination in 1961.

El Jefe controlled his daughter with the same tight grip with which he ruled the country. It is a toxic love, and Flor will spend her life fighting to free herself from her father's yoke, a father she both loves and loathes. Her life journey takes her through nine marriages and many exiles, leading her to places like France, Nazi Germany, and the United States.
