Testo Junkie by Beatriz Preciado is a provocative diary documenting a year-long experiment of daily testosterone self-administration. Rather than aiming to become male, Preciado challenges societal norms on gender, using testosterone as a means of exploring pleasure beyond traditional boundaries and redefining identity through a molecular lens. This intimate account serves as both a personal journey and a critical examination of gender politics and pharmaceutical control.

The most visionary book on gender and sexuality today.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

For one year, Beatriz Preciado gave doses of testosterone to herself every day. She writes, 'I don't take testosterone to transform myself into a man but to betray what society has wanted to make of me...to feel a form of pleasure that is post-pornographic, to add a molecular prostheses to my low-tech transgendered identity.'

Testo Junkie is a diary of transgression; Preciado's record of the use of herself as a lab rat. It recounts the defiant 'misuse' of a pharmaceutical product normally strictly controlled and investigates gender politics.
