Following the bestselling Dandenong Ranges, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, and Laneways of Melbourne, this new sumptuous large format, hard cover 300 plus page coffee table book with over 1500 stunning photos is the latest in our Portraits of Victoria series.

Melbourne is known for its picturesque parks and gardens and is regarded as Australia’s garden city. Victoria is known as the Garden State, and it was in Melbourne’s beginnings that Governor Charles La Trobe set aside parklands for people to enjoy the beauty of outdoor gardens. Land was reserved for the Fitzroy Gardens in 1848. Captain Cook’s Cottage and over 1,000 trees including an avenue of 250 Dutch and English Elms are located here.

The historic Carlton Gardens, along with the Royal Exhibition Buildings, are included in the World Heritage list and annually host the immensely popular Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Kings Domain, established in 1854, encompasses La Trobe’s Cottage, the Shrine of Remembrance, and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. It also features many trees planted by early directors of the Botanic Gardens, Baron Ferdinand von Mueller and William Guilfoyle.

The Queen Victoria Gardens include a floral clock displaying over 7,000 flowers, and the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, established in 1846, are regarded as one of the finest botanic, landscaped gardens in the world. Popular pastimes involved strolls through luxurious gardens, socialising at picnics, and attending concerts in the parks. Melbourne’s passion for natural beauty has led to the creation of hundreds of parks and gardens.

The Victoria State Rose Garden, Footscray Park, St Kilda Botanical Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, and the National Rhododendron Gardens, among many others, are breathtaking and truly inspirational. The changing colours of each season bring new designs of beauty, enticing visitors to return. Melbourne’s parks and gardens are a place to dream, to be inspired, and filled with joy.
