Pandemic Shark takes a closer look at the classic mistakes made by amateur chess players. The book delves into common errors and provides insights into improving gameplay.

Some of the highlighted mistakes include:

1. Moving a piece too often in the opening. This mistake often stems from a desire to create something in the opening when the focus should be on simple development.

2. Impatience. Sometimes players are too eager to change something, even when there is no real need.

3. Overgeneralizing. Compared to professional play, which is more about concrete calculation, amateur players tend to overgeneralize. This may be because they are not as familiar with the basic art of calculation.

4. Cutting variations off too quickly. Amateur players often do not extend their calculations far enough, leading to superficial play.

These and other mistakes are thoroughly explained in the book. It's worth noting that professional players are not immune to these errors, either.
