Nerikomi is the use of coloured clay to build a piece’s decoration into its very fabric before forming and firing. A variety of techniques including stacking, slicing, and stretching the clays results in a multicoloured loaf, highly patterned slices from which are used to create ceramic forms. The possibilities are endless.
This beautifully illustrated introduction by accomplished nerikomi specialist Thomas Hoadley includes:
- A brief history of the origins and international styles of coloured clay
- A section dedicated to the most honoured Japanese Masters of nerikomi
- Stunning and highly varied examples of nerikomi work from around the world
- Step-by-step examples of many of the techniques that they employ
Whether you simply enjoy the beauty of multicoloured clay or are seeking inspiration to enrich your own nerikomi project, this essential volume will reward your repeated viewing.
