Monsters

From the film director of Saltburn and Wuthering Heights
Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
Set in the ostensibly idyllic Cornish town of Fowey, Monsters unfolds a dark tale when the body of a young woman is found in a fishing boat's nets, confirmed as murder. Amid the shock, a twelve-year-old girl feels delight rather than horror, driven by her fascination with murder mysteries. Her investigation deepens with the arrival of the equally peculiar Miles Giffard, and together they delve into the town's secrets, re-enacting murders through unsettling games. Emerald Fennell crafts a gothic, darkly humorous story about childhood corrupted by darkness and morbid curiosity.

A blackly comic tale about two children you would never want to meet

From the award-winning film director of Saltburn, a blackly comic tale about two children you would never want to meet.

Set in the Cornish town of Fowey, all is not as idyllic as the beautiful seaside town might seem. The body of a young woman is discovered in the nets of a fishing boat. It is established that the woman was murdered. Most are shocked and horrified. But there is somebody who is not--a twelve-year-old girl. She is delighted as she loves murders. She starts her own personal investigation, but just when it starts getting boring 12 year-old Miles Giffard arrives in town. Luckily he is just as odd as she is, and they start investigating together. Oh, and also playing games that re-enact the murders. Just for fun, you understand...A book about two twelve-year-olds that is definitely not for "kids".A brilliantly unsettling and darkly-humoured story with plenty of murder in Emerald's unique gothic style
