Remember when we talked about the growing number of our favourite novels being given a second life as graphic novels? Well, one of the biggest is getting closer, because we finally have our first proper look at Rebecca Yarros’ ‘Fourth Wing’ in graphic novel form.
The covers for ‘Fourth Wing, The Graphic Novel: Volume One’ have officially been revealed, with artwork by Anabel Mayet Rossi and an adaptation by Rebecca Yarros herself.
The fully illustrated, full-colour graphic novel will cover the first half of ‘Fourth Wing’, taking readers through chapters 1 to 22 and bringing Violet, Xaden, Basgiath and, of course, the dragons to life in a completely new way.
And there isn’t just one cover to choose from.
Several different editions have been revealed, while the deluxe hardback comes with a dragon-scaled slipcase, shimmering metallic ink detailing, a foil-stamped front cover and an exclusive art print featuring Violet and Xaden’s first kiss.
Fans are already talking
Unsurprisingly, the covers have got Empyrean fans talking. While the art style has divided some readers, there’s also plenty of excitement about seeing a world as visual as ‘Fourth Wing’ transformed into a graphic novel, particularly when it comes to finally seeing the dragons and some of the series’ biggest scenes on the page.
As one fan pointed out, “‘Fourth Wing’ is very visual so a GN makes sense,” while another said a graphic novel would be “really cool to have with all the dragons.”
Of course, this is the Empyrean fandom, so there are opinions! One of the biggest talking points has been just how many different editions there are, with one fan questioning whether we really need “so many versions of the same book”. On the other hand, some readers are loving having a choice, with another saying it was “cool that there are so many options to pick from.”
And that choice could prove dangerous for collectors who already struggle to resist a special edition.
As we said when we looked at the rise of graphic novel adaptations, these books aren’t simply shorter versions of the stories we already know. The artwork gives readers a completely different way to experience familiar characters, places and moments, and a world filled with dragons, magic and Basgiath War College feels particularly well suited to it.
‘Fourth Wing, The Graphic Novel: Volume One’ will be released on 6 April 2027, and after seeing the covers, we’re even more intrigued to see what’s waiting for us inside.
