Loveless
WINNER OF THE YA BOOK PRIZE 2021
A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Loveless, the fourth novel from the phenomenally talented Alice Oseman, author of Solitaire and the graphic novel series Heartstopper – now a major Netflix series – explores the nuances of identity, self-acceptance, and the different forms that love can take.
Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, and never even had a crush. Though she finds countless hours of joy as a fanfic-obsessed romantic, she is convinced she'll find her person one day. As she begins her first year at university with her best friends Pip and Jason, Georgia is determined to finally experience the romance she's been dreaming of.
With her energetic and outgoing roommate by her side and a new role in the university's Shakespeare Society, Georgia feels her 'teenage dream' is finally within reach. However, as her plans for romance start to disrupt her friendships, Georgia faces a complex internal struggle and begins to question why love seems effortless for everyone else but so elusive for her.
Amidst this personal turmoil, she is introduced to new terms – asexual and aromantic – and grapples with the idea that she might identify with these labels. Through a journey filled with comedy, mishaps, and deeper self-realisation, Georgia discovers that true love doesn't just come in the form of romance. It can also be found in the powerful bonds of friendship and self-acceptance.
Loveless is a wise, warm, and witty story that showcases Alice Oseman at her finest, as she takes readers through the highs and lows of discovering one's true identity and the beauty of platonic love.
“A joyous, disarmingly honest book that seems to leap right inside the mind of a teenage girl,” writes Independent (now iNews).
The Irish Times praises the novel, calling it “An ode to friendship and platonic soulmates; this cosy blanket of a novel understandably won the YA Book Prize 2021.”
According to The Bookseller, Loveless is “A joyful tale of self-discovery.”
Join Georgia as she navigates the ups and downs of her university experience and discovers that sometimes, the greatest love stories are the ones we have with ourselves and our friends.
