An exciting collection of knitting patterns which take a new look at the traditional Icelandic sweater known as the lopapeysa. These sweaters are traditionally knitted using unspun, undyed yarn in combinations of neutral colours but in this collection the designer uses bright, bold colour combinations to give them a fresh new look.

Knit Modern Scandi Sweaters by Marita Clementz offers 12 knitting patterns for modern sweaters from this talented Swedish designer. Utilising yarn from Iceland, Sweden, and Norway, these sweaters provide the cosiness and warmth reminiscent of traditional Icelandic designs, but with bright and contemporary new patterns and colours.

Inspired by her desire for innovative designs, Marita has reimagined the traditional Scandinavian sweater. Her creations utilise vibrant patterns and colours, providing a modern outlook while maintaining the snug and warm appeal of traditional versions. Each sweater is knitted top-down and in the round, eliminating the need for seams and allowing easy adjustments to body and arm lengths. Designed to have a loose fit, these garments can be worn as unisex sweaters suitable for the whole family.

Marita's choice of unspun but not undyed yarn from Norway, Sweden, and Iceland contributes to the traditional halo effect and provides the lightness and warmth associated with the classic lopapeysa sweater. This unique collection features 12 top-down sweater designs, each with an alternative colourway, enabling personal experimentation with different palettes.

Based in Sweden, Marita draws inspiration from nature for her designs, incorporating organic shapes and motifs such as large flower blooms. Her colour choices are influenced by natural phenomena like the midnight sun in Sweden and the beautiful midsummer flower meadows. The patterns are graded to fit 10 different sizes, offering a loose fit suitable for a wide variety of body types, making this a truly inclusive collection.

The author, Marita Clementz, is a Swedish designer who sells her patterns on Ravelry and teaches her unique techniques in workshops and events.

This book highlights key aspects:

  • A collection of 12 patterns rekindling the traditional Icelandic sweater's charm with modern colours and designs.
  • The vibrant designs are inspired by traditional lopapeysa sweaters, but offer a modern aesthetic.
  • The patterns are popular among knitters for being knitted top-down and in the round, eliminating seams and allowing easy adjustments.
  • The Nordic and Scandinavian knitting theme is widely cherished, and iconic Icelandic sweaters hold a special place for knitters globally.
