Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann delves into a horrifying and largely forgotten chapter of American history. Set in the 1920s, it recounts the true story of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma. After discovering an abundance of oil beneath their land, the Osage became incredibly wealthy, surpassing many of the wealthiest individuals globally. They lived opulently, riding in chauffeured cars, living in grandiose mansions, and educating their children in prestigious European institutions.

Their newfound prosperity, however, invited a sinister wave of greed and violence. One by one, Osage individuals started to mysteriously die under suspicious circumstances. As the death toll escalated, the newly formed FBI, under the directorship of J. Edgar Hoover, took on the investigation. However, the agency faltered repeatedly, failing to solve the case and bring justice to the victims.

In desperation, Hoover enlisted the help of former Texas Ranger Tom White. White, along with a dedicated undercover team and the Osage themselves, embarked on a perilous journey to uncover the truth. What they found was a chilling conspiracy implicating some of Oklahoma's most revered and powerful figures. Their investigation revealed the sinister extent to which individuals would go to obtain wealth, resulting in one of the FBI’s first significant homicide cases.

This gripping narrative is not just a reflection on these tragic events but also an in-depth exploration of the cultural and racial dynamics of the time. David Grann meticulously reconstructs this dark period with vivid detail and profound empathy, ensuring that the stories of the victims are never forgotten.

‘A riveting true story of greed, serial murder and racial injustice’ — Jon Krakauer
‘A fiercely entertaining mystery story and a wrenching exploration of evil’ — Kate Atkinson
‘A fascinating account of a tragic and forgotten chapter in the history of the American West’ — John Grisham
‘David Grann has a razor-keen instinct for suspense’ — Louise Erdrich

From the bestselling author of The Lost City of Z, now a major film starring Charlie Hunnam, Sienna Miller, and Robert Pattinson, Killers of the Flower Moon presents a disturbing, poignant, and ultimately revealing portrait of a nation's history and the lengths to which individuals will go in the quest for power and riches.
