Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
HRD and Learning Organisations in Europe explores the transition of lifelong learning from a mere concept to a practical imperative in the workplace. It examines how companies in Europe are evolving into learning organisations, where employees are self-directed learners driving innovation and improvement. The book presents findings from a comprehensive European study on Human Resource Development (HRD) professionals, focusing on their evolving roles, how they motivate employees to learn, their collaboration with line managers and staff, and the challenges they encounter in transforming HRD practices. Drawing on theoretical insights and nearly thirty case studies from countries including Finland, the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Italy, this volume offers an in-depth look at the intersection of HRD and lifelong learning.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Lifelong learning is moving from buzzword to reality for ever more workers. Firms increasingly need their workers to be active, self-directed learners who contribute to innovations and improvements of processes, products and services. Companies that explicitly encourage and support worker learning, from a strategic perspective, are called learning organisations.

HRD and Learning Organisations in Europe is the result of a European study into the changing views and practices of professionals in the field of Human Resource Development within such organisations. It investigates questions such as:

  • How do HRD professionals regard their own role in the light of the growing importance attached to learning?
  • How do they stimulate worker motivation for learning?
  • How do they cooperate with line managers and employees?
  • What road blocks do they face in changing HRD practices, and how do they try to overcome these?

Focusing on Europe, the book contains authors and research from Finland, the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Italy. Theoretical explorations of the learning organisation and the changing face of HRD complement nearly thirty case studies of HRD functions.

This book will be essential reading for both academics and professionals in the fields of HRD and lifelong learning.
