An incredible achievement, a story of friendship, memory, loss, and moral duty unlike any I've read before β€” Dina Nayeri, author of The Ungrateful Refugee

Awake Awake by Fiona Mozley explores the complex world of memory through the eyes of Mary, who is struggling with the overwhelming number of recollections she holds. Mary's memories are abundant and varied; they include her childhood, replete with parties, school trips, family walks, and dinners.

She also recalls significant world events, such as the fall of the Twin Towers and the Iraq War. However, her most troubling memories involve her Jewish grandfather and a supposed connection to Adolf Hitler's death. Mary is almost certain that these memories must be imaginary, yet a lingering doubt persists.

In her quest to sort fact from fiction, Mary revisits her past, reflecting on her formative years with her three friends in York and an adulthood marked by tragedy. With guidance from her family and friends, she attempts to discern her own reality, pondering the possibility that her mind might have fabricated everything.
