Influence is Your Superpower

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

In Influence is Your Superpower by Zoe Chance, readers are invited into a world where influencing others ethically becomes a powerful tool for creating positive change. The book challenges the conventional notion that one must resort to cynical manipulation to succeed. Instead, Zoe Chance, a dynamic Yale professor, presents a refreshing take on persuasion that empowers individuals to stay true to their values while achieving their goals.

At the heart of the book is the idea that influence isn’t about coercion but about connection, understanding, and authentic interaction. Through engaging and often humorous narratives, Chance draws from the latest behavioural research, as well as compelling real-life stories, to illustrate how anyone can harness the power of influence in their everyday lives. Whether you're trying to inspire your team at work, make an impact in your community, or simply navigate day-to-day interactions, this book offers invaluable insights.

One of the unique aspects of Influence is Your Superpower is its focus on practical techniques that are both simple and effective. For example, Chance introduces the "Magic Question," a technique designed to uncover deep motivations, and "Powerful Listening," a method that emphasizes empathy and genuine engagement. Another valuable tool discussed is the "What Would It Take?" question, which helps reveal what is needed to achieve a particular goal. Further, Chance explores innovative strategies for building support and leveraging collective influence for greater impact.

The book also delves into defensive strategies, arming readers with knowledge on how to recognise and protect themselves from manipulative tactics employed by less scrupulous individuals or entities. This balanced approach ensures that readers are not only capable of wielding influence with integrity but are also safeguarded against unethical persuasion.

Overall, Influence is Your Superpower is both a bold call to action and a practical guide for all the "nice" people in the world who wish to wield their influence ethically. It emphasises that one doesn't need to compromise their values to be persuasive and successful. Instead, it advocates for an approach to influence that builds a brighter, more positive future through genuine and ethical interactions.

This indispensable book is perfect for anyone eager to learn how to make a difference, be it in professional settings or personal relationships, without resorting to manipulation, bullying, or corruption. Engaging, insightful, and profoundly motivating, Zoe Chance’s work will leave readers feeling empowered and equipped to use their superpowers for good.

About the Author

Zoe Chance helps great people become more influential. She's an assistant professor of marketing at Yale School of Management, where she teaches one of the school's most popular electives, Mastering Influence and Persuasion (aka 'Doing Uncomfortable Things That Make You a Better Person'). Zoe delivers keynotes and influence workshops internationally and works with Fortune 500 firms and leading non-profits. Her research has been published in top academic journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Science and Psychological Science, and covered in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and BBC. Google uses her behavioural economics framework as the basis for their global food policy, to help employees make healthier choices by accident. And Zoe's TEDx talk, How to Make a Behaviour Addictive, has been viewed over 500,000 times. In 2017, Thinkers50 named Zoe one of the top global management thinkers to watch. Prior to Yale, Zoe managed a $200MM segment of the Barbie brand at Mattel, acted on stage and film, and earned her bachelor's from Haverford College, MBA from USC and doctorate from Harvard Business School.
