Popularity Papers: Book One by Amy Ignatow introduces us to Lydia and Julie, best friends with a singular goal: to crack the code of popularity. Lydia is the bold one, an aspiring theatre star, stick-fighting enthusiast, and human guinea pig. Meanwhile, Julie is the shy observer and artist, an accidental field hockey jock, and a faithful recorder.
In this engaging notebook, they write down their observations and conduct experiments to uncover what makes the popular girls tick. However, the more Lydia and Julie try to imitate the popular girls, the further they drift from their goal—and from each other.
Amy Ignatow perfectly captures the essence of friendship and the fifth-grade experience, skilfully wringing humour from both ordinary and extraordinary moments.
