Combining adventure, skill, and beauty, The Outfitter's Camp Cookbook showcases 60 hearty Dutch oven, photo-driven recipes for campfires, cabins, and backcountry kitchens alike-perfect for any outdoor enthusiast or food lover.
Cook boldly, eat beautifully, and take your kitchen outside with these 60 recipes developed for outdoor cooking.
In The Outfitter's Camp Cookbook, world-class fly-fishing guide and wilderness outfitter Mia Sheppard shares her insider techniques and recipes for mastering the art of outdoor cooking in a Dutch oven. Whether you're camped along a remote riverbank, parked at a trailhead, or cooking over your own backyard firepit, this book proves that wilderness meals can be every bit as satisfying and stunning as those made in the home.
With 60 recipes designed for simplicity, flavour, and beauty, and practical guides for menu planning, prepping, packing, setting up, and managing fire safely, Sheppard teaches you how to turn a campfire and a Dutch oven into a true kitchen.
Alongside awe-inspiring photography that captures the raw beauty of outdoor life, explore recipes for:
- Hearty breakfasts like Wilderness River Outfitter Frittata and Upside Down Caramelized Apple-Cinnamon Pancake
- Snackable apps, including Hot Spinach, Artichoke, Parmesan Dip and Zucchini Chanterelle Tart
- Elegant dinners such as Lemon-Dill Poached Salmon with Green Beans and Leeks, and Baked Chicken with Orzo, Spinach, and Mushrooms
- Tasty sides like Creamy Mac and Cheese, Salmon River Wild Rice, and South Fork Cornbread
- Delectable desserts, including Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler, Orange-Cardamom Olive Oil Cake, and S'mores Fondue
What sets The Outfitter's Camp Cookbook apart is Sheppard's deep connection to place. As a seasoned outfitter and fly-fishing guide, conservationist, and lifelong outdoorswoman, she's spent years cooking in the most beautiful and challenging environments on earth. While she knows exactly how to make the most of limited tools, minimal gear, and the unpredictable conditions of the wild, she's here to prepare you so that you can stress less about what you're eating and have more fun.
Part instructional manual, part visual celebration, this cookbook invites you to slow down, savour the outdoors, and rediscover the pleasure of cooking over a flame or using charcoal briquettes. For the aspiring adventurer or the seasoned camp cook, The Outfitter's Camp Cookbook offers both the know-how and the inspiration to create memorable meals under the open sky.
The Great Outdoor Cooking series brings the flavours of the kitchen into the wild, with recipes designed for campfires, cabins, trails, and backyards alike. With a beautiful photo for every recipe, an attractive giftable package, and an affordable price, each book blends easy techniques with adventurous spirit, proving that outdoor meals can be just as fun and delicious as anything cooked indoors.
