In Berserk Volume 29, the relentless journey of Guts, the Black Swordsman, continues as he and his steadfast companions finally escape the clutches of the treacherous wilderness. Their destination is the bustling port city of Vritannis—a beacon of civilisation amid the chaos. Yet, this seeming sanctuary harbours its own dark secrets and sinister challenges. The city unfolds itself as a tapestry of danger, where the line between humanity and monsters becomes disturbingly blurred.

As the group cautiously navigates this perilous new setting, new tensions stir. Schierke and Isidro find themselves entangled in a perilous confrontation with ruthless pirate slavers, whose illegal trade threatens the fragile peace. Meanwhile, Farnese must confront her own demons as her power-hungry family resurfaces, determined to entangle her once more in their web of political machinations. Their influence looms large, casting a shadow over Farnese's tentative steps towards independence and self-discovery.

The companions' singular hope is to secure passage aboard a ship that could ferry them away from the looming threats. But securing a vessel is only the beginning of their trials; ensuring everyone's safe departure proves an increasingly daunting endeavour. Haunted by foes both human and otherworldly, the group must gather their strength, relying on unbreakable bonds and newfound allies in their quest for survival.

As Kentaro Miura masterfully weaves breathtaking artwork with profound storytelling in Berserk Volume 29, fans are treated to an immersive experience filled with heart-stopping action and deeply resonant emotional arcs. The volume is yet another gripping chapter in the saga of Guts, where every decision propels the narrative further into the realms of epic and existential inquiry.

About the Author

While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star). In 1990, the first volume Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga entitled Japan. Miura's fame grew after Berserk began "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of this masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists. In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan made, ranging from statues and action figures, to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu (Astro Boy) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.
