Berserk Volume 1
His name is Guts, a feared warrior spoken of only in whispers. Bearer of a gigantic sword, an iron hand, and the scars of countless battles and tortures, his flesh is also indelibly marked with The Brand, an unholy symbol that draws the forces of darkness to him and dooms him as their sacrifice. But, Guts won't take his fate lying down.

DescriptionDelve into the haunting and fantastical world crafted by Kentaro Miura with Berserk Volume 1, an iconic work of manga that has captured the imaginations of fans worldwide. Known for its gritty tone and unrelenting intensity, this volume sets the stage for an epic journey of revenge, destiny, and supernatural horror. Unnervingly violent and darkly comic, Miura's narrative navigates through a realm where danger lurks at every corner, and heroes are forced to confront not only their foes but their own tortured pasts.
At the heart of this tale is Guts, the Black Swordsman, a formidable warrior who wanders a world ravaged by demons and darkness. Guts carries with him a massive sword that seems almost an extension of his body, and an iron hand—a testament to the many battles he has fought and survived. His body and soul bear the scars of relentless conflict and torment, marked with The Brand, a sinister emblem that attracts demonic entities determined to claim him as their sacrificial prey.
Despite the chains of destiny that bind him, Guts is driven by an indomitable will to defy fate. He carves a path of vengeance, leaving behind a trail of blood and destruction. His quest is not one of nobility or honour, but of sheer survival and retribution against the malevolent forces arrayed against him. In a world rife with fearsome adversaries, both monstrous and human, Guts remains an unpredictable, solitary force of nature.
Accompanying Guts on his perilous journey is Puck, an elf whose light-hearted demeanor and whimsical nature starkly contrast with the grim reality surrounding them. While Puck may often seem more a source of irritation than alliance, his presence adds a touch of levity to the otherwise sombre landscape, providing moments of respite in the unending tide of darkness and despair.
Berserk Volume 1 is not merely a tale of survival and swords but an exploration into the very essence of humanity, fortitude, and whether one can truly escape the shadows of their past. A cornerstone of modern manga, this volume is essential reading for those who cherish an immersive story that refuses to shy away from the brutal truths of its universe.

About the Author
While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star). In 1990, the first volume Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga entitled Japan. Miura's fame grew after Berserk began "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of this masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists. In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan made, ranging from statues and action figures, to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu (Astro Boy) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.
