The chaos in the kingdom of Midland intensifies in Berserk Volume 18, as dark forces close in, promising terror and turmoil. Following the death of Midland's king, vulnerabilities in the realm have attracted a brutal invasion. Alongside the human mayhem, demonic entities are emerging from the shadows, capitalising on the kingdom's plight. Pagan cults, previously hidden in secrecy, are now brazenly unleashing their wild rites, while the Church zealously hunts down heretics, forcing them to repent for their supposed sins.

Amidst this pandemonium, the formidable warrior Guts embarks on a fierce mission against the invaders, wielding his newly repaired sword as he carves a path through chaos. Yet, Guts's journey is shadowed by personal trials. His former captain and love, Casca, is trapped in a dreadful aftermath of their past encounter with the malevolent demon lord. Her shattered mind leads her into the clutches of unsavoury individuals who bear sinister intentions.

Both Guts and Casca are bound by the cursed Brand of Sacrifice, marking them as prey for otherworldly horrors. As Casca's captors underestimate the dire consequences of her brand, they face the ominous reality that demonic abominations, drawn inexorably to the Brand, may soon claim their reckoning.

With its masterful blend of intense action, rich storytelling, and deep exploration of human suffering and resilience, Berserk Volume 18 continues Kentaro Miura's epic dark fantasy saga. Fans of the series will find themselves on the edge of their seats as they witness Guts's relentless struggle against fate and his relentless pursuit to protect those he holds dear.

About the Author

While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star). In 1990, the first volume Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga entitled Japan. Miura's fame grew after Berserk began "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of this masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists. In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan made, ranging from statues and action figures, to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu (Astro Boy) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.
