To Asia, With Love by Hetty Lui McKinnon is not just a cookbook; it is a heartfelt culinary journey that serves as both a return and a tribute to the flavours and comforts of McKinnon's Asian heritage. This exquisite collection bridges the gap between traditional recipes and modern interpretations, offering a unique take on Asian home cooking that is accessible to all.

Longlisted for the ABIA Illustrated Book of the Year 2021, this book is a reflection of McKinnon’s personal journey as a Chinese girl growing up in Australia. It celebrates the simplicity and richness of Asian cuisine through a variety of recipes that are both comforting and adventurous. From the nostalgic salt and pepper eggplant and red curry laksa to the comforting congee and the supremely straightforward egg, pea, and ginger fried rice, McKinnon succeeds in bringing together the old and new.

However, McKinnon's creativity doesn't stop at traditional recipes. She introduces readers to her modern interpretations, each dish an inventive twist on Asian classics. Delight your taste buds with buttery miso vegemite noodles, stir-fried salt and vinegar potatoes, cacio e pepe udon noodles, and a grilled wombok Caesar salad with wonton crackers. These dishes emphasize seasonal vegetables and the use of pantry staples to create irresistible Asian-inspired flavours.

Whether you’re turning a banh mi into a refreshing salad, venturing into the realm of soy sauce-powered chocolate brownies, or following McKinnon's rainbow guide to eating dumplings by the season, To Asia, With Love promises a culinary experience unlike any other. Each recipe is designed to be not only delicious but also easy to prepare, making Asian home cooking accessible to both novice and seasoned cooks alike.

Shortlisted for the Australian Book Design Award 2021 for Best Designed Cookbook, this book is as visually appealing as it is delicious to explore. Each page brims with beautiful photography and artful design, enhancing the overall cooking experience.
