Get to know Jordan, one of the original driving forces behind the scenes at Book Hero, making sure every order leaves the warehouse on time and in perfect condition.
Hi, I’m Jordan! I’m responsible for keeping the warehouse running smoothly and making sure every customer order placed before 4pm is shipped the same day. The best feeling is seeing every order leave on time - and when Dylan, Lizzy or Marnie share positive customer feedback in our team channel, that means a lot.
When I first started a year ago, Book Hero was a lot smaller. I was doing absolutely everything in the warehouse - receiving, shelving, picking and packing. There wasn’t an order I didn’t touch. Now I manage a team and help the warehouse scale as demand grows. It’s been really rewarding to be part of, and I’m proud of what we’re achieving together.
My day usually starts pretty simply - an energy drink, then straight into work. On the way in I’ve always got rock or metal playing to get into the zone, and that pretty much continues throughout the day. The warehouse vibe is loud music and getting stuck in.
Lunch is usually sushi, then it’s back to it. There’s always more to do than time in the day, so a big part of the job is working as efficiently as possible and keeping things moving.
One thing customers might not realise is just how much has to go right for their order to leave on time. Stock needs to be invoiced, received, processed and shelved in the right sequence so it can be picked. If something slips, the order doesn’t go out - and we don’t accept that. Everyone in the warehouse plays a critical role in making it happen.
Outside of work, I’m usually at home watching a movie, playing guitar, or jumping on video games. I’m also into cars and racing.
If the warehouse was a movie, Mondays would be a full-on war scene, and the rest of the week would be a comedy. Dom’s usually the one making me laugh, which helps keep things fun even when it’s busy. We’ve got a great team and enjoy coming to work each day.
Looking ahead, I’m really excited about levelling up the warehouse as we expand into toys, board games and puzzles. That should put my shiny new forklift license to good use. There’s a lot that goes into supporting a wider range, but it’s awesome being part of making Book Hero more useful for our customers - especially heading into Christmas! It means a lot to me that our work in the warehouse makes other people’s lives a bit easier every day.
