Description
The work of Cuban-born artist Zilia Sanchez is characterised by her distinctive approach to formal abstraction through the use of undulating silhouettes, muted colour palettes, and a personal, sensual language. Sanchez's exceptional formed canvases, which range in scale from the intimate to the monumental and span fifty years of artistic production, have seldom been seen outside of Puerto Rico, where she has lived and worked since 1972.
Produced in conjunction with the artist's first solo exhibition at Galerie Lelong New York, this publication focuses on Sanchez's shaped paintings made three-dimensional through her unique method of stretching canvases over hand-moulded wooden frameworks.
