See moreWindsor Castle: An Illustrated History explores the history of Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, which has been of fundamental historical, cultural, and architectural importance for nearly 1,000 years.
This popular history of the Castle discusses how a Norman motte-and-bailey castle, established by William the Conqueror around 1070, survived and evolved through pivotal events such as the Middle Ages, the English Civil War, the Restoration of the monarchy, two world wars, and the disastrous fire of 1992. Today, it remains the premier royal residence of Her Majesty The Queen.
Beautifully illustrated with spectacular paintings, drawings, and photographs from the Royal Collection, the book also features newly commissioned photography of the Castle as it appears today. In addition, it includes 3D reconstructions of the Castle at important moments in its history, revealing how this extraordinary building has evolved over time.
