LONGLISTED FOR THE CWA HISTORICAL DAGGER

Where God Does Not Walk is a gripping, original thriller set against the backdrop of the Western Front in July 1918. Lieutenant Gregor Reinhardt, serving in a stormtrooper battalion, is thrust into an investigation laden with danger and deceit.

When one of his subordinates is accused of murdering a group of officers and subsequently attempts to take his own life, Reinhardt begins to dig deeper. His search for truth uncovers a conspiracy within the German army, a plot designed to end the war on terms favouring those longing for a Germany reminiscent of the past.

Reinhardt's investigation takes him from the ravaged front lines to the high echelons of Berlin society, and through hospitals filled with the war's shattered men. Through these trials, he experiences an awakening, coming to terms with the pervasive corruption and callousness surrounding him.

His sense of duty and devotion to the Fatherland and the Kaiser become increasingly hollow as he realises the depths of deception.
