See moreUncovering Einstein's New Universe takes you into a universe reimagined by Einstein, where time and space are warped and ripple in response to everything else around them. Vast bursts of energy, in the form of ripples of pure and empty space, pass through us at light speed, conveying messages about a dying universe and the realms where space, time, and matter all cease to exist.
Understanding Einstein's prophecy took a century of exploration. Even Einstein himself doubted his predictions. Eventually, the collaboration of 1000 physicists was required to detect his greatest prediction, gravitational waves.
The definitive proof of Einstein's new universe started with donkey trains and sailing ships at Wallal in 1922. A century-long endeavour by a host of eccentric and determined scientists has brought us to the age of gravitational wave astronomy. Our detectors, akin to bionic ears, now provide us with a new sense, enabling us to hear across the vastness of the universe.
This book narrates the global story from an Australian perspective, starting with the Wallal Expedition, initiated by Alexander Ross of the University of Western Australia, and leading to the nationwide team that participated in the discovery of gravitational waves and continues to spearhead efforts in gravitational wave discovery.
