Three Scoops by David Hill is a compelling collection of stories that beautifully weave together themes of history, fantasy, and the future.
Historical: Coming Home - The story of Harry and his loyal horse Blaze during New Zealand's rush to support the British in the Boer War. On the eve of departure, Blaze panics and escapes, leaving Harry to face the voyage and horrors of war alone. Throughout his experiences, Harry yearns for Blaze, hoping he is safe, while Blaze struggles to return to the family farm, facing dangers of his own.
Fantasy: I Wish - Trent Karam finds himself bored and depressed in a new town and school. Desperate to stand out, he discovers a magical book-elf hidden in a mysterious box of books left behind by movers. With his computer missing, Trent turns to the books and learns they contain stories that can help him, as the book-elf can grant wishes.
Future: Strange Meeting - Sophie is proud of her father's involvement in the Neptune space mission. Yet, fellow student Pita warns that his Koru signals danger and dishonesty in their work. As she struggles to decide who to believe, a large meteoric threat looms in space, waiting to be nudged by cosmic forces. Will it stay the course or strike?
The book features spot illustrations by Lisa Allen, known for her work on Fantastic Mr Bean by Mary-ann Scott. Please note, cover suggestion is only provisional.
