Today Ruthie is an award-winning West End and Broadway star, known for the emotional power of her performance. In 1987, she was at the start of her career, a lycra-clad chorus girl in Cats (third feline from the left, back row). Which is when she met Prince Edward, who had just started to work for Andrew Lloyd Webber. Edward is kind and thoughtful. Ruthie is warm, flirty, prone to telling risquΓ© jokes and hiding the impact of childhood trauma. Within weeks they are dating.
Ruthie recreates a seminal period in her life, as she navigates a discreet five-year relationship with Prince Edward while determinedly following her dream to land a leading role. About the Author
Ruthie Henshall, is an English actress, singer, and dancer who has had a notable career in musical theatre. She has been nominated for five Olivier Awards, winning for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Amalia Balash in the London revival of She Loves Me in 1995. She has performed in a wide range of iconic musicals, making her West End debut in Cats in 1987, playing Maggie in Fame, Polly Baker in the West End production of Crazy for You and Ellen in the original West End cast of Miss Saigon. She is also known for her work in Chicago, where she is the only British actress to have played all three leading female roles: Roxie Hart, Velma Kelly, and Mama Morton. Other notable roles include Fantine in Les MisΓ©rables, Nancy in Oliver!, and Mrs Wilkinson in Billy Elliot the Musical.
