The Intrinsic Logic of Design

Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
The Intrinsic Logic of Design explores the evolving role of the design process amid rapid technical and economic changes such as online trade and new production technologies. It addresses the social challenges designers face, including fair manufacturing, sustainability, and personality rights. The book investigates eight design areas to uncover their unique rationalities, proposing that each has its own intrinsic logic distinct from standardised methods or external processes. This research advances the theory of design by decoding the complexity of individual design practices.

An Analytical View on Design

The analysis of a new societal significance of design is a new contribution to research into design methods and design theory, by examining the rationales underlying various methods and procedures.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The design process is gaining in importance within the context of rapidly complex technical and economic developments such as online trade, social media, and new production technologies. This has inevitably been accompanied by highly charged social issues such as socially just manufacturing conditions, sustainable development, and the upholding of personality rights, which designers are challenged with.

While the social relevance of design is indisputable, it has not been researched much. The research project Intrinsic Logic of Design looks at eight sample areas to determine the specific rationalities of the applied design methods and processes in each, based on the hypothesis that the different design areas are each based on their own logic of design production. These constitute an intrinsic logic that cannot be reduced to standardised sets of methods within the discipline, nor to established processes outside it.

The decoding of the complexity of individual design processes simultaneously contributes to the further development of the formulation of design theories.
