Carlos found the harmonica in the attic. His mother had told him stories of Uncle Jacks music. Softly, secretly, Carlos played Uncle Jack's harmonica. He played it to the whirling wind and to the silver moon. And somehow it seemed as if Uncle Jack was there with him.

What treasures might a boy find in a dusty old attic?

Carlos is surprised to find a shiny silver harmonica in a dusty old box in the attic. He secretly plays it in his room at night and outside, amongst the tall grasses. Finally, taking it to his mother, he discovers that it was once his Uncle Jack’s, who he learns died in the war. It is through the harmonica and the music they have shared that Carlos feels he has got to know his uncle.

Experience the touching journey of discovery and connection in The Harmonica by Dawn McMillan.
