Updated with four new major chapters, this New York Times bestseller illuminates the new developments in cancer detection, prevention, treatment, and understanding in the fifteen years since its first publication. Described by The New Yorker as "an extraordinary achievement," this book is a magnificent and profoundly humane biography of cancer.

Siddhartha Mukherjee's The Emperor of All Maladies became an instant classic upon its release in 2010. It serves as a comprehensive biography of cancer, tracking its first documented appearances thousands of years ago, through the efforts of the 20th century to cure and control it, leading up to a radical new understanding of its essence.

Since its initial publication, substantial advancements have been made in the world of cancer research. Our understanding of its causes has deepened, our attempts to prevent it have evolved, and revolutionary new treatments have been developed. This is captured in four profound and revelatory new chapters, essentially creating a new book about cancer.

In these chapters, Mukherjee provides both a bird's eye view of the landscape and an acute focus on the role of the cell. He also examines imminent new studies and looks towards the future.

Riveting and audacious, The Emperor of All Maladies is now more urgent than ever with this vast update. It remains a masterpiece, offering critical insights into the ongoing battle against cancer.
