Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

With a loveable cast of characters inspired by Karen Herbert's work in aged care, this gentle cosy crime novel is described by the West Australian as 'a charming and comforting read'.

Josh is a sweet, well-meaning university student working part-time in aged care with a secret hidden in the retirement village basement—two research mice that he stole from a campus laboratory. What starts as a kind gesture sets off a chain reaction of mishaps with the worst one of all, a potential outbreak of a deadly disease.

Enter a curious cat, a devilish dog, the arrival of some mysterious packing boxes and a strange spike in the village's water bill, and watch as the residents of Harewood Hall band together to solve the series of curious incidents using their wits, a lifetime of experiences, and a spreadsheet or two.

The Cast Aways of Harewood Hall is the perfect mystery novel to curl up with.

'It is perfect for those who enjoy gentle intrigue without having to also encounter murders all over the page, best enjoyed with a cup of tea then happily stacked on top of the likes of Vaseem Khan's Inspector Chopra series or Joanna Nell's The Single Ladies of Jacaranda Retirement Village.' Books+Publishing

'The Cast Aways of Harewood Hall is a delightful, light read bursting with a whole cast of likeable characters all with their own quirks and pet projects.' The Burgeoning Bookshelf

'Drawing on her own experience of working in the aged care sector, Herbert writes with palpable warmth and empathy for her characters ... The result is a charming, comforting read celebrating community and kindness.' West Australian

'The story follows several characters, each one thoughtfully rendered and given a life that exists both on and off the page.' Writing WA
