Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
The Billboard centres on a fictional Black women's clinic in Chicago's Englewood neighbourhood. When a local City Council candidate erects a provocative billboard declaring "Abortion is genocide" and condemning abortion within the Black community, the clinic responds defiantly with their own message affirming abortion as an act of self-care and empowerment. Through this clash, the story explores complex themes of reproductive justice beyond traditional pro-life and pro-choice debates.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The Billboard is about a fictional Black women's clinic in Chicago's Englewood neighbourhood on the South Side and its fight with a local gadfly running for City Council. The conflict arises when the gadfly puts up a provocative billboard with the message: "Abortion is genocide. The most dangerous place for a Black child is his mother's womb."

This spurs the clinic to fight back with their own bold sign: "Black women take care of their families by taking care of themselves. Abortion is self-care. #Trust Black Women."

The book includes a foreword, afterword, and a Q&A with a founder of reproductive justice. As both a play and a book, The Billboard is a cultural force that treats abortion as more than just pro-life or pro-choice.
