Sky City

Sky City offers a spellbinding portrait of 90s London, capturing themes of friendship and loneliness, healing and redemption. It follows the intertwined lives of three individuals brought together by chance, penned by the Women's Prize-shortlisted author of Fire Rush.

Sky City is recognised as a Guardian book to read in 2026, described as "hypnotically beautiful" by Louise Kennedy and "a lyrical hymn to London's overlooked places of sanctuary" by Hannah Lowe.

After years spent in a hostel for young homeless women, Jaycee finally secures a room of her own in Sky City, a housing estate in north London illuminated by its glow-in-the-dark skyline. Despite this newfound independence, her past looms large, haunted by childhood memories. An encounter with Sol, an old classmate who once protected her, offers hope—a potential lifeline back to stability. Sol was Jaycee's first love; the question remains whether she can trust him now.

Jaycee's best friend, Ella-G, has traded London for the allure of New York's music scene. Both women, bound by a shared quest for paternal connections, set off on a journey when Jaycee stumbles upon a rare record linking to Ella-G's father. Their search leads them to Atlantic City, thrusting Jaycee into a profound confrontation with her identity. Back home in London, Jaycee, Sol, and Ella-G grapple with the quest for justice and healing, even as their worlds threaten to collide and unravel.
