The United States, Taiwan, and China are bound within a silicon triangle. Semiconductors link our geopolitics, our ongoing economic prosperity, and our technological competitiveness.
This book draws on the deliberations of a multidisciplinary Hoover Institution–Asia Society working group of technologists, economists, military strategists, industry players, and regional policy experts to contemplate the dynamic global supply chain in semiconductors. One in which US industry faces growing vulnerabilities, China aggressively promotes home-grown semiconductor mastery, and Taiwan finds itself with a crucial monopoly on high-end logic chips sought by buyers globally.
Silicon Triangle seeks to present a balanced view of how policies of the United States and its partners around semiconductors can increase the resilience of shared supply chains—and contribute to deterring conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

About the Author
Orville Schell is the Arthur Ross Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at the Asia Society, former dean at the University of CaliforniaBerkeley Graduate School of Journalism, and the author of a dozen books on China, where he has traveled widely since the mid-1970s.
Adm. James O. Ellis Jr., USN (Ret.), is an Annenberg Distinguished Fellow at the Hoover Institution, where he cochairs the Global Policy and Strategy Initiative. His thirty-nine-year navy career included service as carrier battle group commander leading contingency response operations in the Taiwan Strait and as commander of US Strategic Command.
Larry Diamond is the William L. Clayton Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and the Mosbacher Senior Fellow in Global Democracy at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University. He cochairs the Hoover Institution's projects on China's Global Sharp Power and on Taiwan in the Indo-Pacific Region.
