Saturday is Pancake Day
Saturday is Pancake Day
One morning Milo tossed pancakes high in the air. Lily, Lena, and Gwendolyn jumped up and down trying to catch them.
'Breakfast is ready,' called Milo. But upstairs all was quiet.
Dada Henry doesn't feel like pancakes this morning, and Milo and the twins aren't sure why. They persist in making more and more elaborate concoctions—Maple Come Back for More, Little Puddings Supreme, and Brussel Sprouts Forget Me Never—but nothing will lure Henry out of bed.
This funny and heartwarming story tells us that every now and then, everyone needs some 'me-time'.
Children aged 4-8 will delight in the gross-out humour of meals such as Good Morning Green Ice Cream (pickles, spinach, mayonnaise, and ice cream), and they'll become caught up in the fox family's warm-hearted culinary bedlam... Green and Gray-Barnett extend their passion for inclusive representation by addressing mental health through the gentle portrayal of Henry's struggle, as well as seamlessly incorporating same-sex parents into the story as a natural element, without unnecessary emphasis. ... A fun, bouncy book.

With its large, brightly coloured cartoonish illustrations and disgustingly eccentric recipes, this would be a fun read aloud... Kids could write or draw their own disgusting recipes!
— Youth Services Book Review
With its underlying theme of dealing gently with parental mental health and representation of LGBTQI+ families, Saturday is Pancake Day is ideal for kids who love to experiment in the kitchen and young readers. A fun read from start to finish.

About the Author
Bernadette Green (Author) Bernadette Green grew up loving animals and being outside. She was no happier than when she was high up in a tree or riding her horse, Blue. As a teenager she dreamed of becoming a writer, but life took her on different adventures. She was a mushroom picker for many years before studying to be a youth worker and then a writer. Bernadette now juggles writing and working as a disability support worker. She is the author of Who's Your Real Mum? which was shortlisted for the 2021 CBCA Book of the Year- Early Childhood. Bernadette lives in Naarm/Melbourne with her partner, their two kids and two dogs. Daniel Gray-Barnett (Illustrator) Daniel Gray-Barnett is an illustrator and author from the Huon Valley in Lutruwita/Tasmania. He likes to think of himself as someone who was put on this planet to tell a few stories before he turns into a grumpy old man. He's worked with clients including Disney, Kiehl's, Sydney Opera House, and The New York Times. His first picture book, Grandma Z, won a Children's Book Council of Australia award for Best New Illustrator. When he's not in the studio, he can be found daydreaming in the garden with his husband, German pointers, and chickens.
