Pleasure of Place: Photographs by Richard Stringer explores the eloquent image-making of photographer Richard Stringer over a period of more than four decades, and provides a focused lens through which to view the evolution of Queensland.
Richard Stringer continues in the tradition of other distinguished Australian documentary photographers, such as Harold Cazneaux and Max Dupain. His beautiful and distinctive photographs capture the structure, light, and detail of landscapes, architecture, and industrial archaeology.
Coming to photography through his training and practice as an architect, Stringer has an eye for intricacy, a pronounced technical proficiency for composition and lighting, and a great sensitivity for the built environment. His approach to the human form is equally perceptive, and his portraits of artists reveal the essence of his subjects.
Pleasure of Place explores the distinguished and influential career of Richard Stringer, a renowned Queensland photographer.
